iBird Journal: Listing Birds of North America App Reviews

Am loving this app to help with keeping up with watching the backyard birds. Lots of fun. App is easy to use, though it takes a bit if focus to get the hang of it.

Best program to keep your lists. Smooth integration with iBird. Also good for watch lists.

I like being able to ID a bird in iBird Pro and then go to Journal. Setting locations is quirky and rather unintuitive, and I wish that the Note and Tag field were available on the Basic form.

This app exceeded my expectations. The listing capabilities are amazing. If you love birding, keeping track of your observations, and seeing where you have birded over the years, this is perfect for you. I personally love the mapping feature showing the locations of all observations. It has summarized my last 13 years of birding beautifully.

I love having my life list with me and in list form. I have a yard list also, which is also nice to have handy. I wish, however, that the species list would default to last name, not first, or that you would have the option of setting it to last name so it would automatically appear that way each time without having to tap "Last" each time. Overall, though, I am very happy with this app.

Good features overall. Like how easy it is to add birds observed. Would really like it to keep a tally of overall different species on users list (create a life list for app).

Have really been enjoying this app and all it provides.

Makes it pretty easy to record what you see, especially since it takes you to the database. It would save time if you could just type the name of birds you know and have it autocomplete for things like Project Feederwatch. It would also be nice if I could export to AviSys for my life list.

Simple and sleek way to log bird sightings. Nice integration with iBird. Needs more settings, especially the ability to auto fill gps location. Location is awkward and time consuming now when logging multiple sightings from same place.

Goes great with ibird pro. Very useful and love how easy to use.

Does just what I need. Not for identification, so I dont need the app to be lightening quick.

I like the convenience of identifying a bird in iBird then easily being able to tap journal to record it.

The bird icon scroll is good, As is being able to move map pin to exact sighting area. But no way to enter multiple sighting areas for birds. Map entry is slow—should be synced w Maps ability to give choices for areas being typed. I was hoping for a real journal-like feature the ability to add sighting locations, type of habitat, particulars such as understory, types of vegetation, and other pertinent info. My wish list would be to be able to group birds by locale and/or habitat seen in. Ill hang on to this for a while in case it gets better; but Ill probly stick w using a written journal

I love this app! I have fifteen lists from birding trips and excursions. And Im keeping a 2014 List--at 187 on March 31! I do wish it were faster with a step or two less to get my bird recorded, but I believe it will happen! Thanks very much--I wonder if there is a way to share the lists?

Its nearly impossible to enter a new location. It defaults every time to an infinite loop over Apples address in Cupertino. Very poor map integration.

This app I is the best way for me to track my sightings! I always have my phone, along with this app.

Why does this app assign street addresses to bird sitings? Very difficult to change location of pin so I usually give up on entering sitings. Seems to be a hugely capable app with basic data entry impediments.

App crashes when I try to delete a location. No other complaints.

Easy to use, comprehensive, and very powerful. I love it. A feature I would like to see is the ability to make a slideshow from only the birds on my Favorites list.
